Congratulations, you've done it. You've made it halfway through the school year! And where better to spend time with the kids these school holidays than in the beautiful Riverland.

July 2019

There is a multitude of things to do for kids and families in the Riverland - from playgrounds to putt-putt, nature play, history, activities and movies. Check out some of the great stuff to keep them from saying “I’m Bored!”

If the kids have energy to burn, the Riverland is well known for our fantastic playgrounds spread across the whole region. The famous Monash Adventure Playground and its a-maze-ing maze, Barmera Playspace overlooking Lake Bonney, Morgan Rail to River Adventure Playground with the PS Morgan Paddle steamer replica and Loxton Pioneer Playground with a flying fox and PS Jolly Miller play structure just to name a few!

If you want to immerse the kids in nature and water play, then the Waikerie Water & Nature Play Park on the Waikerie riverfront is a must visit! Kids can enjoy hours of fun on the different equipment including a flying fox, tepee, water play features, boat, climbing wall and sensory pieces. Pack a picnic and put on a hat for a great family day out.

While you're in Waikerie, a visit to the new Silo Art is a must! The kids will love the giant yabbie, Regent Parrot, riverscapes and more painted on the silos.

The Riverland is also home to some great skate parks in Barmera, Waikerie, Loxton and Renmark so the kids can skate, scoot or ride! The Renmark Visitor Information Centre also have bike hire facilities for full or half-day hire, including bikes for the little ones!

Bella Lavendar in Glossop have great meals for the whole family as well as a playground and a mini golf course for the kids!

Speaking of mini golf, why not make your very own 'family tour' and head to Berri Riverside Holiday Park and try out their course as well! Open 7 days, they also host Pizza and Mini Golf Nights on Wednesday and Saturday's as well as 'Flavours and Tastes' on Saturday's with locally hand-crafted, cooked, grown and created produce and goods!

For more local goodies, the Renmark Riverfront Markets is on Saturday the 6th of July, with over 40 stallholders! There is plenty of fun for the kids with cupcake and biscuit decorating as well as giant games!

For some great local entertainment in the holidays, The Riverland Musical Society's Legally Blonde the Musical is showing at the Bonney Theatre in Barmera on the 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st of July.

At the Chaffey Theatre in Renmark on Thursday the 13th of July is Dr Suess's Cat in the Hat Live on Stage! There are some great family-friendly movies screening these school holidays at the Chaffey as well, with multiple sessions running daily including Sensory and 3D screenings. Movies include Toy Story 4 and The Secret Life of Pets 2!

There is also an Inflatable Cinema Movie Day at the Morgan Sporting Complex on Tuesday the 16th of July!

For a chance to experience some great local history, visit the Loston Historical Village and the Women of the River Country Exhibition where you can follow the journey of remarkable women from across the Murray Darling Basin and discover how they have shaped history along our mighty rivers.

Why not allow the family to experience a bygone era with a scenic 90 minute cruise on the historic P.S. Industry in Renmark on Sunday the 7th of July.  For a different kind of transport, experience a ride on the steam train at The Cobdogla Irrigation & Steam Museum Open Day on Sunday the 14th July.
