treat the kids (and yourself) to a riverland holiday

July 2020

The end of the school term means it's time to switch off for a bit and relax - and where better to spend time with the kids these school holidays than in the beautiful Riverland.

July = Winter = CAMPING! There is a multitude of amazing spots throughout the Riverland to pitch a tent or swag or park the caravan or camper - and winter is the perfect time to do it! Toast marshmallows, cook a stew or damper on a campfire by the river, teach the kids to fish, explore the backwaters in a kayak and walk or cycle the nature trails. There's nothing quite like sleeping under the stars, and it's the perfect way to switch off from the hustle and bustle. Check out our River Camp Caravan and Camping Map to find the perfect spot for you and your family!

There is also a range of fantastic caravan parks dotted throughout the region and many would agree that they are great fun for the kids - with lots of family memories to be made!

If you're after something a little more 'comfortable', the Riverland has some awesome accommodation all across the region. From hotels and motels, to river shacks, cottages, holiday homes and houseboats. You can browse a range of Riverland accommodation here.

Kids ready to burn some energy? The Riverland is well known for our fantastic playgrounds spread across the whole region. The famous Monash Adventure Playground and its a-maze-ing maze, Barmera Playspace overlooking Lake Bonney, Morgan Rail to River Adventure Playground with the PS Morgan Paddle steamer replica and Loxton Pioneer Playground with a flying fox and PS Jolly Miller play structure just to name a few!

If you want to immerse the kids in nature and water play, then the Waikerie Water & Nature Play Park on the Waikerie riverfront is a must visit! Kids can enjoy hours of fun on the different equipment including a flying fox, tepee, water play features, boat, climbing wall and sensory pieces. Pack a picnic and put on a hat for a great family day out.

The Riverland is home to some great skate parks in Barmera, Waikerie, Loxton and Renmark so the kids can skate, scoot or ride! The Renmark Visitor Information Centre also have bike hire facilities for full or half-day hire, including bikes for the little ones! Berri Riverside Holiday Park also have an amazing mini golf course that is open to the public!

While it is the school holidays that doesn't mean it has to be just about the kids! For mum's and dad's, there are amazing wineries, a distillery, coffee roaster and brewery for you to try! Plus some amazing local food at our cafe's, bakeries, pubs and restaurants. You can check out the array of places on offer on our River Tastes Food and Beverage Trail. Please be mindful that our local businesses have had to adapt in a huge way these last few months, so check out their social pages or call ahead before visiting - they will all appreciate your support!

Be sure to pick up some of our delicous Riverland produce from one of the many roadside stalls we have in the Riverland. There's no need to bring fruit or veg with you, we have these best here! The kids will love our juicy oranges!

Check out our Riverland Visitor Guide while you plan your stay and when you're in the region, pop in to a local Visitor Information Centre and talk to a friendly local in the know of all the things to see and do!
