Almond plantings along the Murray River over the years were mainly used as boundary or headland plantings. The 1960’s and 1970’s saw a move to more irrigated areas long the Murray River which offered more potential.

In 2019/20, the Riverland region grew 20% of the total Australian almond plantings over 10,571 hectares of farming land. This equates to approximately 3.3 million almond trees.

Almond trees take three years to bear a crop and around seven years to reach mature production.

View the incredible almond blossoms in bloom as you drive through the trail.
