The town was named after Vice Admiral J.C. Glossop, Commander of HMAS Sydney that sank the German raider Emden during World War I. An anchor situated out the front of the town’s motel is a memorial to this commander.

Stroll through Bella Lavender Estates lavender garden, before enjoying a game of putt putt and delicous wood-fired pizza from the cafe. Browse the extensive range of lavender products or enjoy some famous scones with homemade jams.

On a smaller scale drop into 919 Wines cellar door and sample their award winning hand crafted wines produced from low yielding vineyards that concentrate flavours. The wine range is well suited to warmer climates. Try their fortified wines for which they are developing quite a reputation. The family owned and run winery focuses on using grape varieties which thrive in a Mediterranean climate making them perfectly at home in the warm Riverland.
