Loveday is perhaps most well-known for its Internment and Prisoner of War camp during World War II.

Established in 1941, the internment camp was one of the largest in Australia covering approximately 180 hectares. The site was selected at the time because of its rail and road connection, its irrigated fields and because both electricity and telephone communications were available. The camp was closed at the end of the war but a few original buildings still remain today – they can be viewed by contacting the Berri or Barmera Visitor Information Centres.

Loveday is also home to the popular Loveday 4x4 Adventure Park which includes campsites, 4 Wheel Drive tracks and its own tavern completed with children’s playground.
